Many summer events celebrate the Tuscany of once upon a time. Our Top Picks include the Middle Ages Festival in Palazzuolo sul Senio (July 16-18, 23-25; www.osteghibellina.net), which will feature an array of locals wearing and selling medieval wares in Palazzuolo's historic centre. Among the many traditional and hilarious reenactments, we nominate that of the flight of Cecco Santi, captain of the Vinci army who betrayed his town for the love of a woman and, as a consequence, was thrown from the town castle's tower.
